Bright and airy with a nautical touch, this room is named after the famous author Herman Melville, whose sister Catherine and husband, John Hoadley were previous owners during the late 1800's. Curl up on the comfortable sofa with a good book, or begin writing your own novel after a day at the whaling museum nearby. Upon entering the Herman Melville Room, guests come face to face with the author in portrait form, which hangs as a fitting link to the original portrait painted while Melville was in residence here. You will transcend back in time as you rest on your queen size canopy bed, gazing at a portrait of the whaler Acushnet and surrounded by hand stenciled waves luring you into your own inner journey. Period antiques, soft subtle colors, Carrera marble fireplace and fully appointed bathroom complete the aura of comfort and privacy not often found in B&B's .
