Named in honor of the anti-slavery hero, Frederick Douglass, who lived in New Bedford and was quite active in local political circles at the time, this beautiful room is bright and airy, and a joy to stay in. The warm hues of the wood floors and furniture create a cozy atmosphere that you won't want to leave. At the top of the grand stairway is the Frederick Douglass room, which commemorates New Bedford’s rich history of human rights. A fugitive slave, Frederick Douglass, found his first taste of freedom among the city’s politically aware citizens. He honed his skills as an abolitionist and orator here before going on to be one of the foremost leaders of the abolitionist movement. Douglass served as an adviser to President Abraham Lincoln during the Civil War providing a powerful voice for human rights during this period of American history. He is still revered for his contributions against racial injustice. New Bedford’s humanitarian roots began with the Quakers. This common thread weaves throughout the city’s history of immigrations, the labor movement, and today’s acceptance of two openly gay congressmen. Tranquil colors and historic wallpapers, thought provoking art and artifacts, and a portrait of Frederick Douglass surround you as you find rest on the queen size bed. A Carrera marble fireplace and a private bath completes the intimate setting. Click here to learn about general room amenities... Rate: $150 per night
